Jean - Charles Paumier
Jean - Charles Paumier: FACTORY EXIT

Jean-Charles Paumier’s work mostly deals with the working class sphere, its practices, spaces, utopia or counter-utopia. Here, he came up with a light drawing which emphasizes all the fears associated with the social construction of Europe, like the phenomenon of relocation.
Sortie d’usine (Factory exit) is made up of 400 security light blocks that are turned up one after another, so as to create a scary scene: the emergency exits are indicated in opposite directions and the characters of the pictograms are running all over the place.

Jean-Charles Paumier (1982, Lyon) studied at the ESBA (École Supérieure des Beaux Arts) of Cherbourg from 2000 to 2003. He went on the study at the ENBA (École Nationale des Beaux Arts) of Lyon and graduated (DNSEP) with merits in 2005. In the same year he created this installation for the Superflux festival.
He worked as an artist assistant with Antoine d’Agatha, Thierry Cauwett and Yves Belorgey and was a technical manager at the IAC (Institut d’Art Contemporain, Villeurbanne) as well as for the Biennale de Lyon 2007. Paumier has contributed to many selectioned exhibitions in France and abroad; his solo exhibitions are hosted mainly in France.
