Danilo Milovanović’s projects usually engage with public urban spaces: his interventions often examine the conditions in modern cities and reflect a broader view of what is happening in a society, with often critical but also humorous artistic interventions. His new project, commissioned by Lighting Guerrilla festival, is a site-specific installation that will remain in place for several years and represents a peculiar continuation of his previous project Solar Mural (2021) the artist created during his residency in Maribor, Slovenia. The essential medium in this project is light, more specifically the reflection of sun rays Milovanović is capturing with the help of a number of mobile mirrors, set up on a specially built construction. Each mirror represents an individual pixel and is a part of the final image or rather the words that are written out; by connecting them, a solar mural begins to emerge, appearing and disappearing depending on the position of the sun and weather conditions in general. The image of the writing that emerges, questions the state of mind of contemporary times and addresses global changes that shape our lives: are we on the verge of radical changes or are these only short-term sparkles in collective consciousness?

DANILO MILOVANOVIĆ (1992, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina) graduated and later obtained a Master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. As an artist he’s interested in exploring the characteristics of urban landscape in relation to nature and culture, as well as in possibilities of artistic activity and interventions in public space. His works are mostly fleeting, unspectacular and emerge outside the artistic creation’s comfort zone. The results of his interventions are most of all visually expressive and poetic but can sometimes also be more radical and activist gestures that are easily overlooked or only subconsciously perceived.
